Our Commitment to Cultivation

In a One-of-a-Kind Environment

Uwajima City in Ehime Prefecture is a region that boasts one of the largest pearl production volumes in Japan.

Our home, the "Yura Peninsula" in the Shimonada district, is located at the southernmost tip of Uwajima City. Blessed with abundant nature and surrounded by the currents of the Bungo Channel and the deep inlets of its ria coastline, it is an area extremely well suited to pearl cultivation.

Benefiting from these gifts of nature, and by making the most of the power of living creatures and human skill, high-quality pearls are nurtured.

Committed to "Koshimono"

Pearls You Can Use for a Long Time

Today, while pearls cultivated for about 1 year, called "tonenmono," make up the majority, Tensei Pearl mainly produces pearls cultivated for 2 years, called "koshimono."

Growing pearls for 2 years carries risks, such as a lower survival rate of the mother oysters and the formation of natural blemishes called "ekubo" (dimples).

On the other hand, the nacre thickness increases, giving the luster unique to pearls greater depth. The resulting pearls are also less prone to changes in color tone over the years.

To deliver pearls that you can use for a long time, we are committed to "koshimono."

A Little of What Is Good

Small Quantity, High Quality

Drawing on the lessons of the mass die-off of Akoya oysters that began in Heisei 6 (1994), Tensei Pearl limits its cultivation volume.

The mass die-off is said to have been caused by overcrowded cultivation, but its true cause is still not known.

Without placing excessive strain on nature, we carefully raise each and every Akoya oyster.

The pearls we grow are processed in-house and sold one by one with care.

Normally, harvested pearls are put up at tender auctions and then sold wholesale through processors and others.

However, because Tensei Pearl limits its production volume itself, we do not sell wholesale.

By handling everything in-house, from cultivation through processing to sales, we give attention to each individual pearl and deliver high-quality pearls directly to those who need them.

Cultivation Process

At Tensei Pearl, we make the most of the natural environment of the Yura Peninsula in Uwajima, keep our cultivation volume low, and grow our pearls while closely monitoring the condition of the Akoya oysters.

Focusing mainly on "koshimono," which are grown over about 2 years, we handle everything in-house, from cultivation through processing to sales.

"A little of what is good."

That is Tensei Pearl's philosophy of pearl making.
