"Luster" and "Nacre Thickness" over Blemishes

At Tensei Pearl, we place more importance on "luster" and "nacre thickness" than on naturally occurring blemishes.

Of course, having few blemishes is one of the important factors in evaluating pearl quality. On the other hand, it is also a fact that pearls selected solely for being blemish-free are circulating on the market.

It is a welcome development that improvements in cultivation technology have made it possible to cultivate high-quality pearls even in a short period.

At the same time, while a short cultivation period reduces the risk of blemishes forming, the reality is that pearls with thin nacre and colors lacking depth are circulating on the market.

At Tensei Pearl, we value not only a lack of surface blemishes but also "luster" and "nacre thickness," which lead to the true beauty of pearls.

Processing

At Tensei Pearl, we sort each pearl individually, placing more importance on "luster" and "nacre thickness" than on naturally occurring blemishes.

First, the pearls are sorted by size and intended use, and then drilled.

Next comes a process called "shiminuki" (stain removal), which removes impurities within the nacre. Pearls that have undergone only this process are sold as Natural Color pearls.

The color tone of the pearls is then adjusted using a technique called "choshoku" (toning).

Sorting is repeated after that, and while checking "luster," "nacre thickness," "color," "blemishes" and other conditions, the pearls are classified into those for rings, matched pairs for earrings and the like, half-drilled pearls for pendants and the like, and fully drilled pearls for necklaces.

We decide the use of each pearl according to its characteristics and carry this through into product design.

Craftsmanship That Brings Out Individuality

We evaluate from many angles pearls whose individuality has been carefully nurtured in the sea for about 2 years.

While carefully assessing the characteristics of each pearl, we find the design and setting best suited to it.

Then, picturing the customer who will actually wear it, we assemble each piece with heartfelt care.

Tensei Pearl's Quality Standards

The quality of a pearl necklace is evaluated by a variety of factors: "luster," "nacre thickness," "color," "blemishes" and "shape," as well as "renso," which looks at the balance of the necklace as a whole.

Tensei Pearl has set its own standards for all of these factors and does not sell anything that does not meet them.

So that customers can use our pearls with peace of mind for a long time, we sort and process them with meticulous care.
